PRESIDENT LINDLEY !!
Home
it appears that a
Lindley was president of Peru.
In many South American countries the father's name is given first and the
mother's second, so this fellow is a Lindley through the male line:

There is a picture here:

The following gives part of his family tree:
http://gw0.geneanet.org/index.php3?b=antonioalvistur&lang=en;p=presidente+nicolas+eduardo;n=lindley+lopez
His father, Nicolas Francisco Lindley Stoppanie, was born in Doncaster in
1884, and his father, Joseph Robinson Lindley Robinson, was born in
Doncaster in 1859 and married a Martha Stoppani(e) who was of Italian
descent but born in Doncaster - see:
http://gw0.geneanet.org/index.php3?b=antonioalvistur&lang=en;p=joseph+robinson;n=lindley+robinson
His father in turn was Joseph William Lindley, and his father a John
Lindley. See:

Some of the dates don't quite fit, but I think the story hangs together.
In the 1881 census, Joseph Robinson Lin(d)ley (or Joseph Robinson Lindley
Robinson in its Latin American form) is an insurance agent in Ecclesall, but
his wife and two children are at 134 St Sepulchre Gate (Bulls Head Inn)
Doncaster and described as 'a lady' (her name is spelt 'Marther Lindly') and
you will note that the Wikipedia article states: "Lindley was born in Lima
in 1908 to an upper-class family of English descent." Of course. How did
they get to Peru? (By boat of course, but what was the rest of the story?)
My Thanks to John Lindley of North Yorkshire for this amusing story
